- The (dis)advantages of cell phone and internet use today -

Just got free from our english tentam, and I think a part of it belongs here. I'm the author behind this. Remember that it's written in kind of a rush, due to many people sitting behind me, which I really don't like in such situations and that it felt like everyone could read what I wrote, and look what I did on my screen. Not that it really bother that much, but gaah! Anyways; here it is:

- The (dis)advantages of cell phone and internet use today -

The phone has never been so much used as it is today. Still the youth are mostly sitting in their homes, aimlessly surfing the web for what their friends are up to, or if they don't have any close friends; surfing for funny pictures. We should believe that they would contact each other to get out do to something. Nah, they'd rather sit home updating their Facebook page and increase their levels in MMORPG's*, such as World of Warcraft and League of Legends. Why is that so? But that's another story, this is about cell phones. It seems like most of the contact is happening in short message services, better known as SMS's. Or simply messaging.

This messaging however is often more personal than it is when common talking face to face – especially among the youth. It's a great way to tell people awkward things, you don't need to feel the awkward silence or the embarrassing feelings. Just text it. Unfortunately this emotionless way of telling people stuff seem to have made people very emotionless. This is not the case, we're just steering away the awkward stuff and hiding the feelings. Actually, that's kind of lonely, isn't it?

Well, it doesn't need to. Some people don't change their way in using a cell phone. They're just using it to get people so they can talk with them in real life. Exactly like why the phone was created in the first time. Yeah, and there's this other thing. Pictures;

A modern cell phone is by endless possibilities (especially if you've got “application phones” like iPhone or the OS* Android) able to snap pictures. “This is great, finally I don't need to bring my camera anymore,” most people think. But, suddenly, like out of the blue the excitement is gone because some nasty kids which have also got camera phones are taking pictures and publishes them on the internet, when they shouldn't. There is no need to say that this also is a reason because people have started to be more careful at parties, or why people nowadays easier becomes “assassins” to each other, it's strange too see how masculine girls can be when they're in a fight. Well, there IS a good thing that people have started to be more careful at parties and arrangements like that, but how would you remember the youth when you get old? Like “We had an all OK time. The life was all middle. As always,” or “The youth was like livin' life high and I''ve got no regrets even if I've done a looot of bad thins,”? Think about that!

And there's this whole love thing. I have to admit that I'm really worried about the future. Teens, mature teens are asking each other about to get together. By messaging! And when they've dealed to meet each other at a place and on that time, their dreams and hopes about each other is kind of ruined by this ongoing awkward silence. Just because they haven't built a solid ground foundation to each other yet. Of course this highers the expectations of each other when they've got no real impression of the other person. So the awkward silence that's actually there for judging the chemistry about two persons are shoven further, until it cannot be hidden anymore and you just “have to” get through it.

Romance through phones/internet shouldn't be banned, just a little less used. You've got to be friends first [because of the solid ground foundation], but don't wait too long. Then you'll “just be friends” permanently. For a girl there's also a lot that counts to find the right guy. Things that cannot be shown at the web or by messaging. Like body language and self esteem. Most of them know it because of their close chatting to their very nearest, however, there's just another part of their subconscious.

This wasn't no problem in the past, as the eighties and seventieths, because people were more emotionally attracted to each other and actually were less influated by their idols, even if there was a lot more wildly life style. Wanna know why there was a more wildly lifestyle? Because of the Internet's non-existence. People met each other in smaller groups and were better “tightened” to each other. They knew each other in a way you just don't are able to know persons nowadays.
